Portrait commissioning
I paint portraits mainly in oils and watercolour, and ink on paper.
I consider a portrait commission as a joint project of the artist and the sitter, with the objective of meeting the expectations of the client. My aim is not solely to achieve a satisfactory likeness, but to produce a good painting in terms of composition, colour harmonies and tonal balance.
Time: oil: 2 months upwards depending on the commission;
ink and watercolour: approx 2 weeks
Price: (varying depending on medium, size and number of people) from £170 for a watercolour (20 x 30cm); £400 for a small head portrait, oil on canvas (25 x 25cm); to around £2000 for a bigger group portrait, oil on canvas.
Location: travel all over London, but will take commissions from all over the world.
I travel frequently to Norway and can meet the client in the Oslo area More info
I Work mainly from photographs, and occasionally sittings.
Pets and other commissions
With
pet paintings I work from photographs, you can email me the picture of your pet and what size and medium you want (as an example a watercolour 20cm x 20cm (A4) is £150) It takes around two weeks to complete the painting, I will scan the finished painting and email it to you, and if you are happy with the result I will send it to you in the post (postage is not included in the price) after I have received payment.

How it works
I paint mostly from photographs (subject to satisfactory photographs); or occasionally from a mixture of both life and photographs.
You can email me or give me a call to discuss what kind of portrait you would like. If it is convenient, I like to meet the subject, to help with choosing a suitable picture and get a direct impression of the personality. I can also take pictures, this is included in the price, but as I am not a professional photographer it is better if you have suitable pictures taken by yourself of a photographer.
Once we have both agreed on a picture, style and size I will commence painting, for oil paintings I take a 30% advance and then if the client wishes I will keep contact by email to discuss background colour and email a picture before delivering. The remaining payment needs to be paid before or on handing over the painting.
